Upper Onion Creek Group Site B is ideal for small family or group gatherings. Group Site A (Horses Only) is reserved for people with horses and has a horse corral and nearby trails. The campground offers striking views of the Colorado River canyon and the surrounding red rock cliffs, mesas and spires, with the La Sal Mountains as a dramatic back-drop. There is direct access to the Onion Creek four-wheel drive road (watch for seasonal rains and flash floods). The town of Moab is approximately 40 minutes away and has dining, shopping, sports rentals, tour companies and museums.
From Moab, drive north to Highway 128, turn right on 128. Between mile markers 21 and 22 you will see the sign marking the Onion Creek road. Turn right and go about a half a mile. The group areas are on the left side of the road.
Group Site A (Horses Only) is reserved for guests with horses. If you do not have horses, please use Group Site B or one of the many group sites in the surrounding area including Lower Onion Creek, Hittle Bottom or Dewey Bridge. Additional group sites are located in the Moab area. Please call the Moab Field Office for questions about the use of Group Site A (Horses Only), (435) 259-2100. Gusty winds are possible so always secure your tents and camping gear. Ravens, chipmunks and other wildlife frequent the sites; never leave food out. Summer thunderstorms can cause flash flooding and gusty winds; stay aware of current weather. Annual, Senior and Access passes do not apply to group site fees. There are no showers, electricity, dump stations or drinking water at these sites but they are available in the town of Moab.
