5 Things to Do in Colorado During Summer

Clearly there are more than 5 things to do in Colorado! Some of the activities in this list are grouped together for brevity. Below the list is a map that provides links to places located within 2 hours of Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder and Colorado Springs along the Front Range. We’ll explore longer stays and other places in future articles.

1. Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting offers thrill seekers an ideal way to get the adrenaline pumping while cooling off during a hot day! Near Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and the entire Front Range, you can enjoy a half-day or full-day trip with your family. Younger kids will be limited to beginner or float trips while more capable folks can get into the rapids. Many of the rafting companies offer additional activities such as horseback riding, zip line tours and rock climbing.

2. Horseback Riding

Horseback riding provides a unique way to see places off the beaten path. Many guides are affiliated with Whitewater Rafting outfitters and packages for both can be purchased. This is typically a family activity for youngsters 5 years and older.

3. Train Rides

Modern travel typically takes the form of a car, bus, or airplane, but trains are still an option for sight seeing and adventure. There are several options near Denver and the Front Range if you want to get away for the day. There are also several museums and even a miniature railroad at Tiny Town. If you want to get away for a weekend there are options located beyond 2 hours from Denver.

4. Attractions/Amusement Parks

There are plenty of amusement and water parks along the Front Range. Water parks provide an ideal way to cool off during the heat of the summer and some parks have both water park and ride attractions. Other options include the Denver and Cheyenne Mountain zoos, aquarium, wild animal sanctuary as well as bounce parks, museums and go-cart tracks.

5. Parks & Recreation Areas

If you prefer a day outdoors cooling off or pursing a day in nature, there are plenty of parks and recreation areas located within reach of the Front Range. From State and National Parks to local hiking and nature areas, you will not be disappointed. Estes Park is often a popular location for a variety activities and Rocky Mountain National Park is included in that list. There are also plenty of lakes with swim beaches and hiking in the foothills to broaden your horizons. If you enjoy water sports, kayaking and paddle boarding can get you away from the shore without the steep cost of owning a boat!
